Karate:The different types of blocks in Karate

In the online Karate course offered by Zelus Academy, mastering blocks is a crucial aspect of Karate online learning. Blocks are defensive techniques used to protect against arm or leg attacks and, in some cases, against blunt weapon attacks. These blocks utilize either a closed fist or an open hand to shield the body effectively.

The Downward Block (or Down Block) is a fundamental technique used to deflect low strikes, particularly targeting the legs or midsection. This block directs the attack away from the body, ensuring the Karateka remains unharmed.

The Upward Block (or Rising Block) is employed to counter high attacks, such as punches or strikes aimed at the head. This block uses the arm to create a barrier above the head, deflecting the attacker's strike away from vital areas.

The Inner Forearm Block is used against attacks coming from the side, guiding the opponent's strike away using the forearm's inner part. Conversely, the Outer Forearm Block deflects attacks from the opposite direction, using the forearm's outer side.

The Knife Hand Block is a versatile open-hand technique, allowing quick redirection of attacks with precision. This block is especially effective in parrying strikes and maintaining control in defensive scenarios.

Through the online Karate course at Zelus Academy, students will learn to execute these essential blocks with accuracy, building a solid defense that enhances their overall Karate skills. Continue reading
