Hockey: Dominate the field with the push, pass and stop

In Zelus Academy’s online hockey course, we prioritize teaching essential defensive techniques, such as stopping incoming balls, to maintain control and prevent opposing team advances. Mastering this skill requires proper positioning, anticipation, and technique.

To effectively stop an incoming ball, players should first assume the running position, with knees and upper body slightly bent forward and feet shoulder-width apart. Anticipate the ball’s trajectory and shift your feet towards the left to align with its path. As the ball approaches, allow it to come naturally to your forehand side, positioning your stick to intercept it smoothly.

To ensure a successful stop, players should also incorporate a slight twist of the hips and upper body as they make contact with the ball. This twisting motion aids in absorbing the ball’s momentum and maintaining control, preventing rebounds or deflections that could lead to scoring opportunities for the opposing team.

Through our online platform, participants gain access to detailed tutorials and demonstrations, guiding them through the proper mechanics of stopping incoming balls. Join Zelus Academy’s online hockey course to refine your defensive skills and become a more effective player on the field. Gain expert guidance, comprehensive drills, and personalized training to excel in every aspect of the game. Continue reading
